About the Bayside Brass ‘Play On!’ Initiative:
So you’re finishing high school. Congratulations! If you are a brass or percussion player and you enjoyed your music and band activities then don’t put your instrument away and give it all up.
Here’s your chance to build on your hard work and talent and have even more fun while contributing to your local band and community.
Bayside Brass is a traditional brass band that originated as the Wynnum Manly Citizens’ Band dating back to the 1930’s. We are community musicians who come together on a Tuesday evening to make music. The band performs regularly in the parks around Brisbane and participates in events such as Anzac Day and Australia Day and competes in State and National brass band competitions.
We have noticed that many people say that they wish they had stayed connected to music when they left school. Some come back to play later in life, while others just regret they stopped.
So here’s your chance. Our ‘Play On!’ initiative will help you keep on playing as you start work or further study.
What Do You Get
You’ll need to apply – but it’s pretty simple – and if you are successful you’ll get a payment of $500.00 after your first year with the Band. All we want you to do is come and play (and enjoy yourself of course). We’d like you to be of AMEB Grade 5 or equivalent, but don’t be put off is you really want to play and you haven’t done any formal exams. You will be a full financial member of the Band which entitles you to voting rights, free instrument hire, and tuition as well as personal instrument insurance for band-related activities, and more. Yep – there’s a good instrument and great people just waiting to help you play on, and continue your enjoyment of making music.
You’ll make some great friends outside your new work or study environment and you’ll enjoy contributing to the local community at events like Anzac Day and Christmas Carols. If you want to keep some of your existing school band friends, why not get them to apply as well. They can still join Bayside Brass outside of the ‘Play On!’ initiative.
